The Full Series: Black History Today 2018, by Marcus Harden

By Marcus Harden

I want to thank all who allowed me to honor and showcase them for Black History Month. The daily posts started as just a personal letter to people whom I believe to be truly amazing. We often wait too long to tell people what we think of them and their effects on us and our lives.

As the days went on and people would mention the #BHMT posts, I’d be surprised as I never had that intention for them. Yet the most beautiful thing that I saw happen was the “amens” that happened, as those people received love and appreciation from near and far.

As it came to a close, it became really tough as I realized I had a lot more people then I had days. My own personal “board of directors” — my friends who are family — is to numerous to mention (The Brotherhood of the Batcave, Seals, Dancer, JRob, The COL’s in Danforth, Vigor Fam, The TGRM Crew and so many more who make me better).

When folks Like Matt Halvorson, Rise Up For Students and The South Seattle Emerald picked it up and shared with a larger audience the greatness of those folks, I was truly humbled and honored, as each and everyone deserved it.

I truly hope it shed light onto the amazing talent we have in this town (and some in others), and if it accomplished anything, my hope is that Black History Today #29 is a person in your life who inspired or inspires you.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it forever: I am but a shallow reflection of the life and light that has shined into mine. Thank you for allowing me to share 28 rays of light.

This post is part of a "Black History Today" series written by Marcus Harden, a pillar of the South Seattle community and a truly unsung hero, as he honors the living legacy of Black history in his neighborhood and beyond, and recognizes the people who are shaping the future.
