Remember how I told you to stay vigilant? Well, here’s a perfect example.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to weigh in on Washington’s ESSA standards (which I've gone into before), and I finally found it this morning.

And it’s a good thing, because the public input phase ends on Feb. 15. Tomorrow!

Here’s the link to offer public comment:

You might wonder, how does one find this link? Why haven’t I heard of this till now? For my part, I’m a public school parent who spends my days blogging about education. Surely I’d be a target audience if the state wanted to solicit feedback, right?

Look, I’m not (for now, at least) trying to draw up conspiracy theories or point fingers. But how is it that I haven’t seen this until literally the day before the deadline? And if I haven’t seen it, again, a parent who tries to stay pretty engaged, then how is anybody else going to see it?

For now, I’m just asking for your help, hoping you’ll click on this link and spend 10 minutes this week really advocating for education in our state. (And if you want, you can even skim through the state’s plan before filling out the survey.)

So, never mind that you may only be able to find this survey link after searching for quite some time and finally digging up the PDF of a public comment card, and then noticing the link to a survey in the corner of that PDF.

For right now, just join me in making our voices heard:
